I took to the road (and rails) to see the majestic Canadian Rockies with Premier Holidays and British Airways.
The drive from Edmonton to Jasper takes between 3-4 hours and is quite fantastic; snow covered peaks, dramatic glaciers and enchanting wildlife. When you stay at the quiet and secluded Pine Bungalows at Jasper Park (the largest in the Rockies), you could be forgiven for thinking you are sleeping in the forest – which you are! Wildlife will wander in and out at any time. An hour or so further on you’ll find Lake Louise and some of the most spectacular scenery on earth. Enjoy it by taking a hike with a certified mountain guide, grab an oar and paddle yourself around, go mountain biking or saddle up on horseback. If you want a more leisurely pace, try the fly fishing. In winter Lake Louise boasts world renowned skiing and ice skating. No trip to the Canadian Rockies can be truly complete with a journey on the Rocky Mountaineer train – in this case two days from Calgary to Vancouver. Sit back and enjoy the awe-inspiring natural beauty through the windows or from the viewing platform and lap up the Redleaf or Goldleaf service as you go. Back in Vancouver, you can shop and dine in some style and tour the city’s highlights, including Gastown, Stanley Park, Grouse Mountain and the Capilano Suspension Bridge, featuring the Treetops Adventure.
